Tim Harrell

Tim Harrell's professional career has been centered around IT and Software Development. Beginning in 1979 as Plant Manager for a small chemical company, Tim learned to code in order to solve problems involving inventory and manufacturing. He was connecting office PCs, laboratory, and manufacturing computers and their users through shared and networked software and resources throughout the 1980s more than a decade before it was popular. In the 40 years since, Tim's “day job” has been in staff, management and leadership positions and consulting work in the technology sector working with client technology needs in Law Enforcement, Agriculture, and the Service Industry.

So what does any of that have to do with Mindfulness Meditation? Tim took a course in TM, a meditation technique popularized in the U.S. by The Beatles during the time he was in high school. The technique helped him improve academically and socially at the time and throughout his career. It wasn't until 2009 and more than 2000 hours of meditation, that Tim decided to dig into what was really going on. He researched TM, read books written by and about mystics, and listened to lectures by Eckhart Tolle, Jeddah Mali, and Shinzen Young among others. The audio series and book, "The Science of Enlightenment," by Shinzen Young was the nexus. It was Shinzen's clear, detailed, algorithmic approach to the subject that helped Tim begin to make sense of not only the benefits of meditation, but what it really is.

Tim sees Unified Mindfulness as a highly organized framework and methodology for learning, teaching and helping others benefit from contemplative practices from all the worlds traditions.  It is brilliantly combined into one secular, science and evidence based model that's attractive to pretty much everyone regardless of their background.

Tim believes that he can do the most good by helping others learn the skills of mindful awareness while helping extend its reach through science, technology and clinical practice.  Tim is the mindfulness instructor and coach at Headwaters Health, a functional and holistic medical practice in Jacksonville, Florida where he works along side Dr. Will Nields when he prescribes mindfulness meditation as appropriate care for dealing with patient problems. He also works with individuals and groups as a certified Unified Mindfulness Level Two Coach.

When he isn’t solving problems with computers or teaching meditation, Tim enjoys golf anywhere, hiking at altitude, and discussing philosophical and technical topics.  Tim and his wife, Dr. Deb Harrell live in Jacksonville, Florida along with their dogs, Stella, Gracie and cat, Molly.  They are parents of five grown children and grand-parents of 9.
